There are only a handful of liver cancer chemotherapy options for patients. There are ongoing studies, however, that will hopefully provide more treatment options.
The most common chemotherapy drugs for treating liver cancer include:
- Gemcitabine (Gemzar)
- Oxaliplatin (Eloxatin)
- Cisplatin
- Doxorubicin (pegylated liposomal doxorubicin)
- 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)
- Capecitabine (Xeloda)
- Mitoxantrone (Novantrone)
Sometimes, combinations of several drugs are used. GEMOX (gemcitabine plus oxaliplatin) is one option and FOLFOX is another.
Chemotherapy can also be used in combination with immuno-oncology or immunotherapy. Targeted procedures may also be an option.
